So who would you think is the most popular American Idol from last year’s season 5? And how would you find that out? Probably one of the easiest ways to tell, is to find out how many people are searching on their name.

Through the keyword search tool over at Yahoo Search Marketing you can see how many people are searching on a specific keyword in the previous month. Now these results are for February 2007, results aren’t ready for March yet, but guess who’s in the lead for the previous month? That would be our man Elliott Yamin by a good margin.

These results don’t cover the entire search spectrum because they are only from Yahoo’s network of sites and don’t include Google numbers which would increase things by about 2.5 to 3 times. But at least you get some idea of who is the most popular American Idol from season 5.

The results are below in order:

Elliott Yamin - 114,167 searches - This is probably due to Elliott’s impending release of his first album.
Katharine McPhee - 86,001 searches - I thought Kellie Pickler would be more popular than Kat.
Kellie Pickler - 78,681 searches
Chris Daughtry - 39,851 searches - Chris is still at number 4 on Billboard’s top 100 albums
Taylor Hicks - 21,710 searches - Wow, I’m a little surprised here that the winner last year places at #4
Bucky Covington - 15,969 searches
Ace Young - 5,919 searches
Paris Bennett - 4,618 searches - I really liked Paris, but I don’t think she ever got a fair shake from the judges.
Lisa Tucker - 1,227 searches
Kevin Covais - 975 searches - Remember Chicken Little? He was the underdog but didn’t have quite the popularity that underdog Sanjaya Malakar has.
Melissa McGhee - 852 searches
Mandisa - 224 searches - I’m surprised that Mandisa is last. I thought she had a great voice and was quite a bit better than Melissa.

Of course these results will drastically change for March search results. If you remember Kellie Pickler’s appearance at this year’s Idol when she showed up with enhanced breasts. Thousands of searchers were looking for Kellie after that.

Elliott Yamin fans are certainly rejoicing today as the man with the golden voice has finally released his long awaited album.

Since officially being announced back in late January Elliott’s fans have been looking forward to this moment. Well, it’s finally here!

It remains to be seen how well Elliott’s album will do as he does have quite a lineup of American Idol stars to compete with. Chris Daughtry’s album Daughtry has sold over 1 million copies in its short time out making it the fastest selling rock album of all time. Taylor Hicks album has sold over 600,000 copies and Kellie Pickler’s album Small Town Girl has sold more than 450,000 copies.

So if you are an Elliott Yamin fan it’s time to get it in gear and get his album so he can make his mark on the recording industry. You can order Elliott Yamin right here.

Elliott Yamin fans are eagerly awaiting the release of his new self titled album just 2 days from now on March 20th. His album has been one of the most anticipated album releases of last year’s group of the top 12 American Idol finalists. Elliott’s fans have been waiting in anticipation since he announced the new album in late January. To give his fans a taste of the new album, Elliott released Movin On as a single available for digital download on February 13th.

Elliott Yamin has a solid fan base as experienced here on American Idol News in that every time news comes out about Elliott, his fan quickly leave comments on each post. This makes one think that his album should sell quickly and in high numbers.

American Idol fans probably wish there was someone like Elliott Yamin on this season’s show. So far for the guys they have completely disappointed fans and have put in lackluster performances. Not one of them can muster the rich vocals of our boy Elliott and it kind of make you wonder what the judges were thinking when they chose the top 24. I don’t know how Sanjaya Malakar slipped by and now ended up in the top 12. With the possible exception of Chris Sligh the rest of this season’s American Idol guys don’t hold a candle to Elliott Yamin. Where has the talent gone?

Today is the day Elliott Yamin fans have been waiting for for a long time. You can now download his single Movin On from his upcoming album Elliott Yamin.

We’ve heard the previews and seen the video clips from Youtube, but today is the real thing.

Elliott Yamin CDAlright all you Elliott Yamin fans, you can now preorder Elliott’s CD at Amazon.com. I think I missed the news of this by 1 day, but at least I found out about it. Of course his CD won’t be out until March 20th, but hey, why wait?

At the left you will also see the cover to Elliot’s new CD. No word on the names of the songs yet, except for one as Elliott’s single Movin’ On gets released for digital download on February 13th.

It will be interesting to see where Elliott’s CD ranks amongst the other Idols. Chris Daughtry has sold more than 1 million of his CD’s and ranks at #1 on Billboards top 200 list. Taylor Hicks has sold almost 400,000 copies of his album and Kellie Pickler’s CD has sold right at 400,000 copies.

So come on Elliott fans let see what we can do to top that. Preorder his CD at Amazon.

Katharine McPhee AlbumI should have posted this a few days ago when Katharine McPhee’s CD was released on January 30th. Anyway Kat’s CD entitled Katharine McPhee, what else, is available and should do well because she has a big fan base. According to Yahoo Search Marketing 496,954 searched were performed on Yahoo owned properties on her name last month compared to Chris Daughtry who had 107,486 searches.

This is pretty amazing considering Chris has sold more than 1 million copies of his self titled Daughtry album. It kind of makes you wonder how well Katharine will do since she has had more than 4 times the amount of searches. I think Billboard will have results next week where Kat’s album ranks.

Thanks goes out to Laura who left a comment and posted a link to a sample of Elliott Yamin’s soon to be released Movin On single and a video on Youtube.com. I thought I’d go grab the video and post it here. It’s a montage of Elliot pictures with the 30 second Movin On clip over the top of it.

Unfortunately the sound quality isn’t all that great, but my first impressions are it’s a rich R&B sound with Elliott doing it justice. It’s pure Elliott Yamin in that he shows his style to be different that what we have heard from most of the Idol music thus far. The sound is likeable without the Pop sound we’ve been used to hearing from Idols. His fans should love it.

Chris Daughtry continues to be the number one album seller from the 2006 season of American Idol. His self titled cd Daughtry has reached the number one spot on Billboard’s top 200 list.

Chris’ album is also making Idol history because it is the first recording from an Idol that didn’t finish in the top 2 spots to achieve the number one Billboard status. It kind of makes you wonder about how the voting process works when you see results like this.

American Idol is redefining the way we decide what is popular in music today. Many bands and artists work and struggle for years to get known and become popular. Now with Idol, the public gets to decide in one season who it is that they would rather listen to, making instant stars out of people who were virtually unknown just 3 months before the show started.

American Idol has been responsible for 108 chart topping #1 singles and albums and is redefining music for us all. Congratulations to Chris!

Here is Katharine McPhee’s American Idol Audition video. I had forgotten that Katharine’s mom was a voice coach so that was a trememdous benefit to Kat. I also had forgotten how much Katharine looks like her mom.

Of course we do see Idol contestants who’s mom supports them, but doesn’t have a clue about music or just how bad of singer they really are. Take Darwin Reedy for instance, her mom supported her and was sure of her talent, but Darwin was really bad. But wait, this post isn’t about her, it’s about Katharine McPhee. So check out Kathrine’s Idol audition below.

Randy, Paula and Simon loved Katharine and Randy said that Kat was the best voice he had heard at the auditions all season. She obviously did quite well.

I continue to be amazed at the loyal fans Elliott Yamin has. On the post when I announced the date of Elliott’s Album release, I have received 47 comments so far. Elliott fans are finding information about him and keeping him in the forefront it seems more than any other former Idol. It makes me wonder what’s going to happen when his album is released on March 20th. I predict his album sales will pass up Taylor Hicks in probably a few weeks. So far Taylor has sold 587,000 albums.

Get ready for a new week of American Idol as the show moves to Birmingham Alabama on Tuesday night and the Los Angeles on Wednesday.
