About

American Idol is a phenom because unlike all the other talent shows that have ever been on TV, it delivers to America part of a dream millions have of being famous and it lets us pick the winner.

Idol became a huge hit through their unique marketing of having tens of thousands of people audition, wanting to see themselves on TV, who in turn would tell their friends to watch and see them get on TV. They created instant buzz by creating their audience from the start. Who doesn’t want to see themselves on TV, unless of course they’re in handcuffs being dragged away to the slammer.

Besides getting a kick out of the most bizarre “talent” in America, for those of us who watch the show on a regular basis, we start to feel like we really know the Bo Bice’s, Carrie Underwood’s, Kellie Pickler’s, Elliott Yamin’s and Taylor Hicks’ and cheer them on as if we were related to them.

Hang out with the top 12 in your living room for 12 weeks or so and see if you don’t feel like getting them a chocolate bunny for Easter.

American Idol is what it is because it is the American Dream.

Just ask William Hung.
