Jon Bon Jovi was the musical coach on American Idol this evening and everyone had to sing a Bon Jovi song which turned out to be kind of awkward for some of the contestants such as Jordin Sparks and Chris Richardson. Overall though the show was one of the better American Idols this season.

Here’s how each contestant played their part tonight:

Phil Stacey - Phil rocked tonight and his rendition of Blaze Of Glory was hot. It looks like in the last three weeks Phil has had a complete transformation and he was especially good on this evening’s show. Randy and Paula had nothing but praise for Phil, and Paula said that Phil’s performance was the best opening song so far this season. Simon however, had a different opinion. It’s hard to tell where Simon is going most of the time and sometimes I think he shoots his mouth off just for ratings.

Jordin Sparks - Jordin sang Livin’ On A Prayer and it was just okay. I have to give it to Jordin for singing her heart out, but rock music isn’t her strong suit. Jordin has been much better but I think because of her track record, she will be back next week.

Lakisha Jones - Lakisha started out a little questionable on her song tonight, but she turned it around towards the middle and it was classic Lakisha. She was so good she even got a kiss from Simon.

Blake Lewis - Blake took a huge risk with the very popular Bon Jovi song, You Give Love A Bad Name and he knocked it out of the park. His performance tonight will go down as the most original cover tune ever sang on American Idol. There isn’t anything but stars and dollar signs in Blake’s future.

Chris Richardson - Wanted Dead Or Alive was Chris’ choice tonight and it was better than I expected, but it still had that typical boy band sound. Chris’ voice isn’t big enough to handle a song like Dead Or Alive and I wish Phil Stacey would have chosen this one because it would have perfect for Phil. I think Chris will be going home tomorrow.

Melinda Doolittle - Is there any doubt that Melinda is going to win American Idol? Melinda can sing just about anything and she took a new Bon Jovi tune and was stellar. Have A Nice Day was the tune and Melinda made it her own and put herself in a class all by herself. Actually she has been there this whole season.

Tomorrow’s show will somewhat different than we’ve ever seen on American Idol. Because of the charity show that ended up raising nearly $70 million for poverty, they didn’t have the heart to send someone home last week, so they will send two contestants home this week.

This is where the show gets really tough because all the contestants are really starting to get popular and have a strong following. However, someone has to go home, that’s the way the show works. Even though I’m wrong most of the time, yes, I’m going to make another prediction. Chris Richardson will definitely go home tomorrow, but the second person is a hard one. The rest of the contestants are really starting to shine and will probably all get recording contracts, but I have to choose one and I think it will be Phil.

Understand, I have changed my opinion about Phil and the EcoQuest army that is behind him. Phil has been right up there with the best of them for the last three weeks, but I don’t believe he had the backing from the fans at the beginning and hasn’t had time to develop a loyal base beyond the EcoQuest faithful. Sorry Phil, but that’s the way life is.

Take heart though Phil because I’m usually wrong about this. What do I know, you will probably win.

Alan - I am soo glad you predicted this week! I am going to go with you on Chris for sure and probably Phil. Lakisha seems to be the more popular to be leaving tonite with Chris on alot of other bloggs. I hope not - Lakisha was back last nite! Phil has climbed the ladder tho and has had 3 good weeks in a row, so it could be Ms Lakisha. I thought Melinda was screaming last night. Usually she is flawless - perfect performances! Last night, Melinda hurt my ears. I was bummed at Jordin too! I don’t think either one will be “hurt” by it tho. I think everyone else did darn good. Top Two: Blake, Lakisha. Anyway - Happy Idoling!
