American Idol Final Auditions Of Season 6
February 8, 2007 | 3 Comments
Last night we got a look at best, and worst of the auditions from American Idol Season 6 that we haven’t seen so far. The show started out giving an example of how some Idol contestants come dressed to kill, but their singing doesn’t match their outfit. Christa Fazzino had a strange and unique style in both her outfit and voice. Unfortunately she didn’t have a clue how bad she was and took the rejection pretty hard.
Pedi cab driver Tami Gosnell was a bright spot yesterday evening with her singing of Whipping Post by the Allman Brothers. She was quite good and reminded Simon and the rest of us of a sort of Janis Joplin style 60’s rock style voice. It will be interesting to see how she does if she makes it to the top 24 where America gets to vote. How many 60’s rockers are left?
We also found out last night that there is other Asian singing talent besides William Hung. Pool tech Paul Kim’s voice had a smooth rich texture that you wouldn’t normally hear from an Asian, especially after hearing William Hung. Paul was quite good and had a unique sounding voice which could resonate with voters.
Jack Odanovich was inspired by Bo Bice’s a capella In A Dream, but Jack was not inspiring to the rest of us. In fact, he was horrible. He was scary bad and totally clueless. Gina Glocksen then finally gave us a good rendition of Alana Myles Black Velvet after several attempts by other contestants that were less than stellar.
It was then time for Edward Sanchez to express his adoration for Paula Abdul. Edward sang a really bad version of Donna, but he was more than happy because he got a hug from Paula. The guy was on cloud nine and he didn’t care at all that he won’t be going to Hollywood. The skating waitresses were up next and this three girl group was inspired by Kellie Pickler who also was a skating waitress. Heather, Ashley and Ebony gave it their best, but only Ashley and Ebony made it to Hollywood. Simon thought Ebony was in a class by herself, but I disagree and thought Ashley and Ebony were close to being equally matched in talent.
Brandon Reid offered up an original rap song while pop dancing to his tune. I thought it was quite good and very original, but not right for American Idol. This guy had talent though and should try other venues. Another original came from William E. Samland III, or Wes as he liked to be called. It was bad, real bad, especially for someone who said he had done an album and had performed as much as he claimed. Can we count up the clueless people this year on American Idol?
Alex Nazario then gave us a song that Randy Jackson said would be better performed at a theme park. It was strange because usually people lose their accent when they sing, but Alex’s was so thick it was still there when he turned to song.
The auditions finally ended on a good note with Lakisha Jones singing Aretha Franklin’s Think and she did it justice. Simon loved her and it was a unanimous decision to send her to Hollywood. She could easily end up in the top 12, she was that good.
It gets brutal next week in Hollywood. We will see 172 contestants move on to the next round to see if they have what it takes to make it in show biz. After seening clips from Holywood week I thought I saw Shyamali Malakar crying in one of them. It could either mean that Shyamali didn’t make it through to the next round or that Simon is mean, but we already know that.
Stay tuned.

Brandon Reid rocked! He’s the best rapper and pop dancer I’ve ever seen. That guys is highly talented. He’s an absolute professional.
Do you really think that Paul Kim is the exception to the rule when it comes to “smooth, rich-textured” Asian voices? Go take a look at what’s coming out of Asia these days. You never hear about it in the US, but there are some amazing singers over there. I realize you probably didn’t mean it in a negative way, but please don’t feed the William Hung stereotypes that Paul Kim auditioned specifically to combat.
Hi Char,
No I didn’t mean my comments in a negative way. I meant it as a joke because William Hung was an anomaly. Nobody is like William Hung and hopefully Paul Kim will prove that nobody is like him.
