American Idol Is Most Watched Reality Show
January 17, 2007 |
American Idol is the most watched TV reality show ever produced. An estimated 37.3 million viewers watched Idol last night according to Medial Life, which is 2 million more viewers than last year’s premier show. Last night’s Idol is the most watched show of the 2006-2007 by more than 10 million viewers. I guess if you’re an advertiser in the 18-24 market you know where to put your marketing dollars.
Let’s hope we see more talent in Seattle tonight than we did last night in Minneapolis. Sarah Krueger was the only contestant that really has a chance of getting into the top 12 with the possible exception of Matt Sato.
According to a video I found over at Idoljunkies.com there wasn’t much talent in Seattle. You do have to wonder if the talent pool runs a little thin after 6 seasons year after year. I know there is lots of undiscovered talent in the country, but there are only so many people that have the true superstar touch. Think about it, out of the tens of thousands that auditioned last year, only seven at the present time have done a recording or have one in the works.
Simon Cowell commented last night, “I don’t know what I’m doing on this show anymore.” Either that’s a line in the script or he’s just getting tired of the no talent wannabes.
We’ll see what happens tonight.
